World War I
 

At this time I am aware of only one that fell in World War I from the United States. However we do have cousins from England and her Commonwealth Countries.

 

Oise-Aisne American Cemetery and Memorial, Fere-en-Tardenois (Aisne), France

Timothy E. Carman - Sergeant, 306 Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, enlisted from New York, died 3 September 1918. Buried Oise-Aisne American Cemetery.

Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France - the Memorial of the Missing of the Somme contains the names of 72,000 United Kingdom and South African soldiers who have no known grave. 90% died between July and November 1916.

Arthur Alfred Carman - Lance Corporal, 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment, age 26, killed 26 September 1916. Buried Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

George Carman - Private, 1st Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), died 3 November 1916, buried Theipval Memorial, France.

Herbert Carman - Private, 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, died 3 September 1916, buried Theipval Memorial, France.

Richard John Carman - Private, 8th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), died 20 March 1918, buried Theipval Memorial, France.

 

Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France - Part of the "Dud Corner Cemetery", it consists of tablets listing the names of 20,000 soliders who have no known graves. They list casualties from the beginning of the Battle of Loos until the Armistice.

Alfred James Carman - Private, 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment, age 36, died April 21, 1918, buried Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

William Joseph Carman - Private, 3rd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, age 22, died 28 September 1915, buried Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

 

Villers-Bretonneaux Memorial, Somme, France - the Australian national memorial erected to commemorate all Australian soldiers who fought in France and Belgium during the First World War, to their dead, and especially to those of the dead whose graves are not known. The 10,770 Australian servicemen actually named on the memorial died in the battlefields of the Somme, Arras, the German advance of 1918

Clement Claud Carman - Lance Corporal, 27th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F, age 21, died 5 November 1916, buried Villers-Bretonneaux Memorial, Somme, France. (webmaster note- brother of David William Carman, below) who is buried at the Hangard Cemetery, Somme, France)

Roland Clarence Carman - Private, 10th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F, age 23, died 8 April 1917, buried Villers-Bretonneaux Memorial, Somme, France.

 

Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium - the resting-place of nearly 12,000 soldiers of the Commonwealth Forces, the largest number of burials of any Commonwealth cemetery of either world war

Arthur James Carman - Private, 21st Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment), died 20 December 1915, buried Ridgewood Cemetery, Belgium.
