William Samuel7 Carman (Richard6, Benjamin5, Benjamin4, Caleb3, John2, John1), eldest son of Richard Carman, the Loyalist, was born 11 January 1780 in Hempstead, Queens County, New York and was christened on 2 October 1780 at St. George's Episcopal Church, Hempstead, Queens, New York. He left for Canada with his father and mother and younger brother Samuel at the end of the American Revolution and the relocation of Loyalist families. From 1828 thru 1837 William was High Sheriff of Gloucester County, New Brunswick, after which he lost the position to the son-in-law of a County politician. He married 27 October 1803 to Ann Sharman, born 7 February 1779 at Sunbury, New Brunswick, died 4 February 1854 at Fredericton, York, New Brunswick, daughter of Ambrose and Ellis (Lane) Sharman also American Loyalists, Ambrose having been a Lieutenant in the "Royal Fencible Americans" as a surgeon's mate.
