There are only a few direct Carman - Van Wyck marriages, but as the following will show, there are more interesting inter-marriages and historical moments from related generations on down the line. Hence the inclusion of the Van Wyck family herein there own right. The Van Wyck names originate from Dutch spelling and Dutch naming traditions, so at times it can be a bit trying to follow with them for me anyhow. I try to use the collect Dutch spellings where possible, so you will see the name "Antje" where today we would call her Anne. Spellings do vary from source to source also, some including middle names that others do not show. Cornelius Barentse Van Wyck was born about 1645 in Holland. He died about 1684 in Flatbush, Kings County, New York and is buried in the Thorne Ground, Great Neck, Queens, New York (as are several other generations of Van Wycks). He married about 1667 in Midwout, New Netherlands, Anne Polhemus, daughter of Johnannes Theodorus Polhemus and Catharina Van Werven. She was born about 1649 on Itamarca Island, Brazil. ("Dominie Theodorus Johannes Polhemus came from Itamarca, Brazil, where he had been a missionary, with Catharine (Wevern), his wife, and they were in Flatbush in 1654. He was the first Dutch Reformed Minister to settle on Long Island, and until 1660 he was in charge of three churches, Breuklen, Midwout (Flatbush) and Amersfoort (Flatlands)." - Genealogy, Brush-Bowers, page 51 & 52) "The founder of the family in America was Cornelius Barentse (I) Van Wyck, who immigrated to this country in 1660 from Holland, and settled in Midwout, now Flatbush. The family originated in the town of Wyck bei Diersteade, North Brabant, situated on the Teck, a branch of the Rhine, about seventeen miles below Arnhiem. It was a picturesque old town with massive walls. The family descended from Chevalier Hendrick Van Wyck, who lived about 1400. They were Roman Catholics until Jan Van Wyck, a member of the Council of Utrecht, married Wyander Van Asch, a Protestant, in 1575. She was the last of her family and received her brother's property provided her descendents would join the family arms and carry the name Van Asch-Van Wyck." - Genealogy, Brush-Bowers, page 50 Children of Cornelius Barentse Van Wyck and his wife, Anna Polhemus:
