Thomas6 Carman (Stephen5, John4, John3, John2, John1) was born in 1763 on Long Island, New York. He died 27 November 1849 in Carmantown, Passaic County, New Jersey, which will later become Bloomingdale, Passaic County, New Jersey (and not to be confused with Carmantown, Atlantic County, New Jersey which still exists today in the area of Egg Harbor and Cape May). He married first about 1785 at Carmantown, Passaic County, New Jersey to Hannah Vreeland, born 1770 in New Jersey, died in 1813 in Bloomington, Passaic County, New Jersey; daughter of Abraham and Agethe (Van Zale) Vreeland. He married second 9 July 1814 at Pompton, Passaic County, New Jersey to Nancy Bruen, a widow of Barney Sisco, with no issue. Thomas served in the American Revolution with the First Regiment, New Jersey Continental Line with his brothers Daniel, Nathaniel and Elijah. The four brothers were together at the Battles of Trenton, Monmouth and Princeton as well as many minor engagements throughout Monmouth County.
