Thomas, Ichabod
 

Thomas Bowerman was born 20 March 1761 in Verbank, Dutchess County, New York and died 8 August 1810 in Kingston, Canada aboard ship traveling to Quebec on business.  He married on 21 April 1793, Maturah Bull, born 21 April 1773, died 2 November 1846. She married second John Stinson, Jr. and had two more children by him. Maturah was the daughter of Josiah Bull, Jr. and Mehetabel Thomas.

In 1787 Thomas was appointed in Beekman's Precinct, Dutchess County, New York, Overseer of the Highways.  On his marriage to Maturah in 1793 he was dismissed from membership from the Nine Partners MM for marrying her outside of the Quaker faith. He requested consideration for reinstatement in 1796 and was received again in full membership in 1799.  He removed to Prince Edward County, Ontario and was granted free land at East Lake, Hallowell, Prince Edward, Ontario and became a member of the United Empire of Loyalists.  By 1808 he had 520 acres of land under cultivation and was the largest animal stock owner in Hallowell Township. In 1803 he was on the committee and in charge or erecting the first West Lake Meeting House for the Society of Friends, lands donated by his brothers Stephen and Judah, a 21 foot by 31 foot log cabin located on Bowerman's Hill.  Because of his untimely death of "ship's fever" his children are few.
