Robert Arthur Carman was born 6 April 1912 in Iowa. He enlisted in the National Guard during the 1930's to help make ends meet during the depression. When World War II started Robert was activated to active duty. Already having some training and in uniform he was one of the first Americans shipped overseas and was landed in North Africa in 1942. He was captured by the German Army in April of 1943 at the Battle of Kasserine Pass. He was held as a Prisoner of War for the remainder of World War II until he was liberated by the Russian Army in 1945. Upon re-patronization he returned to Iowa and farming. He died there on 13 October 1989. His wife's name was Adabelle. Son of Robert Arthur and AdabelleCarman:
