Richard Hewlett Carman was born 16 March 1803 in Maugerville, Sunbury County, New Brunswick, Canada, about 1856 he moved across the river to Lincoln, Sunbury County, New Brunswick and died in New York City, New York on 24 February 1873.

Richard married first, Ann Eliza Scott, born 1804 in Lancaster, St. John County, New Brunswick on 17 March 1825 at Musquash, St. John, New Brunswick. She died 26 December 1832 in Lancaster, St. John County, New Brunswick.  Richard married second, Mary Ann White, born 18 September 1814 in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada, on 14 June 1837 at White's Point, Queens, New Brunswick.  She died 28 February 1880 in New York City.
