Phoebe Cronkhite was born 24 September 1800, died 21 April 1842. She married Joseph Bowerman, who died in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York. He was the son of Thomas and Maturah (Bull) Bowerman, and brother to Sarah Bowerman and Stephen Bowerman, who both married Garrets whose mothers were Carman women, as was Phoebe Cronkite's - all three women children of Adam and Philadelphia (Titus) Carman (whew!) Now this may sound a bit strange but to remain in good standing in the Society of Friends, you must marry within the Church.
