Phoebe Carman was born about 1714 at Bethpage, Queens, New York and died 11 November 1798 in Westbury, Queens, New York. She married John Townsend on 30 July 1732 at St George's Church, Hempstead, Queens, New York, son of Richard Townsend and Ruth Marvin, he was born 1708 at Westbury and died there in 1797.

John Townsend's aunt, sister of Richard Townsend, was Deliverance Townsend - wife of Benjamin Carman.
