                i.              VAN WYCK5 POLHEMUS

"In 1761, by deed of gift, his father conveyed to him one half of his property in Jamaica and, at the same time, he purchased from his brother Eldert the other half. This property, part of his grandfather's estate, remained in his possession until it was confiscated and sold after the Revolutionary War as the estate of a Loyalist. There, it is said, he kept a famous tavern, also known as Eldert's Tavern, on what is now the southwest corner of Jamaica Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard. Court was held there in 1810 under Aaron Burr; it was later known as the Bogert house and was standing as late as 1931".

Johannes Polhemus is the Great-Grandson of Johannes Theodorus Polhemus and Catharina Van Werven. His daughter Anna Polhemus was Mary Van Wyck's Great-Grandmother.
