Joseph6 Carman (Joseph5, Joseph4, Thomas3, John2, John1) was born on 5 June 1807 in Merrick, Queens County, New York. He married on 1 June 1827, Elizabeth Wanzer, born in 1809 in New York, daughter of Garret Wanzer. He was a farmer and appears to have led a quiet rural life. Below are two specimens, and a change in history, of script. The top two (which are back and front) are "Two Thirds of a Dollar" notes issued by "Resolution of the Congress at Philadelphia, February 17, 1776. Note the back side has 13 circles with each of the founding Colonies written in them. The lower note for Fifty Shillings was issued "According to the General Assembly of Pennsylvania, in the 13th year of the Reign of his Majesty GEO. the third", dated October 1773. The remark on the back of it warns "To Counterfeit is DEATH". They are here under Joseph, Jr. because they were found in his leather pouch. - From the family records collection of John Carman, great-great grandson of Joseph.
