John Carman of Albany

William Stillwell Carman calls this family line, in his journal no. 17, the "Albany Carmans".  The earliest person of this line I know of is a John Carman; according to his son Conrad he and his father came over from England when he was a small boy.

"Mr. Henry E. Carman and Mrs. Grayilla Carman says Conrad Carman said he and his father came from Enlgand when he was a boy. Conrad settled at a place 8 miles back of Rinebeck, and moved to Albany" - Genealogical Journals of the Carman Family, William Stillwell Carman, Book 17 - "Albany Carmans"

John Carman was born about 1725 and according to his grandson in England. He married in 1751 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York, Engeltje (Angelica in English) Buys, born 13 February 1725/26, Christend 20 August 1756 at Linthigo Dutch Reformed Church, Dutchess, New York, daughter of Hendrick Buys and Willemet Oosteroom. The German sounding names come from their heritage as German Palentines.
