John3, Caleb2

John3 Carman (Caleb2, John1) was born in Jamaica, Long Island in 1663. John died fairly young in the year 1696 in Cape May, New Jersey at the age of 34, having followed his father to New Jersey.  As his father was involved in some whaling activities off of New Jersey there is some speculation that is how he died.

John married, on 20 January 1682/83 at Staten Island, Richmond County, New York, Elizabeth Ludlum, daughter of William Ludlum and Elizabeth Smith.  Her Grandparents were William Ludlum and Clemence Fordham thus John3 Carman's grandmother and his wife's grandmother were sister's.

Upon John's death, the widow Elizabeth returned to Jamaica, Long Island with her four boys to live with here mother and step-father.

children of John and Elizabeth (Ludlum) Carman:

bulletWilliam Carman
bulletJohn Carman - born about 1686, he died about 1707
bulletCaleb Carman
bulletBenjamin Carman - born on or before 1696 (obviously as that is when his father died), he died in 1746.  He married a Phoebe who may have been a Denton.  They had one known son - Benjamin Jr. born about 1715.  Benjamin Jr. probably died in the West Indies as in 1746 he signed over power of attorney to his mother, Phoebe Carman, and makes her his sole beneficiary as he is about to depart for there. And so there ends this twig on the branch of the family tree.
