John Thomas Carman was born 26 December 1832, but we still don't know where. We do know that the line started moving west to Ohio and that is where John died in 1924 in Meigs County, Ohio. But when the line started moving out of Maryland can only be guessed at. John married 4 December 1864 in Meigs County, Ohio to Lydia McCumber, born 24 February 1847 in Vinton County, Ohio, died 1938 in Meigs County, Ohio, daughter of Daniel and Mary (Henry) McCumber. John served with Company B, 40th Ohio Volunteers in the Civil War. As mentioned previously John had three brothers who all signed up for the Confederate side, and John never had contact with his brothers again. Children of John and Lydia (McCumber) Carman:
