Jehiel6 Carman (Elijah5, William4, John3, Caleb2, John1) was born 13 April 1768 in Monmouth County, New Jersey, died 17 August 1854 in Island Creek, Jefferson County, Ohio. He was a harness and saddle maker by trade, and like his father he raised a large family.  He married first, in 1782, Rebecca Nearing, born 13 April 1769 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, died before 1832.  Jehiel married second on 2 May 1832 in Jefferson County, Ohio to Elizabeth Thomas, born about 1793 she died in June 1878 in Jefferson County, Ohio.

Child of Jehiel and Elizabeth (Thomas) Carman:

Jonathan Carman - born in 1838 in Jefferson County, Ohio. He enlisted in Company G, 52nd Ohio Infantry during the Civil War, and was killed 20 August 1864 at the Battle of Chattanooga and is buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.  By a twist of fate, his great-uncle by the same name, Jonathan Carman, had died in the American Revolution.
