James Lebbens8 Carman (Melancthon7, Phineas6, Stephen5, Richard4, Samuel3, John2, John1) was born 20 November 1841 in New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey. He died 23 Jun 1923 at Maplewood, Essex County, New Jersey and is buried in Metuchen, Middlesex, New Jersey. He married on on 11 April 1868 at Mobile, Alabama, Florence Carman Dickenson, born 20 May 1844 at Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, died 25 December 1899 at Thomasville, Georgia, daughter of Charles Burns Dickenson and Maria Louise Mundy (who died in 1888 in Mobile, Alabama). Maria Louise Mundy was the daughter of Simeon Mundy and Isabel Carman. Capt. James L. Carman served in the Civil War under his brother, Colonel Ezra Ayres Carman, in the 13th Regiment, New Jersey Infantry, as 2nd Lt in Company D, and as 1st Lt in Company E.
