"He was a farmer and a weaver. They moved from Duchess County, New York to Canada remaining there for two years, then returning to Greene County. Due to Quaker background they went to Canada to escape harassment and military service. Weaving was a major industry in the first part of the 19th century, making cloth for the household and for trade" - "My Family - Pioneer Lives of Adam and Louise (Schnell) Carman", by L.
