He married on 25 July 1888 to Ada Jesse MacVicar, born in New Jersey; died 1905
in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw, Michigan.

of the Lewis Institute in Chicago Dies - Special to the New York Times; ANN
ARBOR, MICH., 24 June - Dr. George Noble Carman, director emeritus of the
Lewis Institute in Chicago, died in St Joseph's Mercy Hospital here today
after a short illness at the age of 84. Dr Carman was appointed director of
the Lewis Institute at its founding in 1895 and served in that capacity for
forty years retiring in 1935. After his appointment Dr Carman spent a year
studying educational institutions and then opened the institute as "a
college of science, literature, and technology", designed to serve students
seeking knowledge in lines fitting them to become wage-earners. The school
now has 3,000 students in day and night classes. Previously Dr. Carman was
School Superintendent at Union City, Mich., principal at Brooklyn and St
Paul, Minn.; Associate Professor of English at the University of Chicago;
and Dean of Morgan Park Academy in Chicago. He received his bachelors degree
from the University of Chicago in 1881, while principle of the nearby
Ypsilanti High School. He was treasurer and later President of the North
Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Dr. Carman was born
in Walworth, N.Y., son of John and Electra Camburn Carman." -
