Gabriel5 Carman (Joseph4, Joshua3, John2, John1) was born 1721 at Hempstead, Queens, New York, died 17 April 1791 at Yorktown, Westchester, New York. He married Hannah L'Stange, born about 1723 and died 19 September 1784 at Rye, Westchester, New York. They were married 19 September 1744 at Rye, Westchester, New York.  Gabriel married second, on 7 October 1785 at New York City, Sarah Machet by whom had no children.

* "Record of Gabriel Carman, Sr. His son Peter stated he was probably son of Joseph Carman of Hempstead and were (may crossed out, were underlined) from Long Island. Crom Pond lies to the east of Peekskill NY. Sleepy Hollow is this side of Sing Sing. Gabriel Carman owned a hill near Crom Pond called Carman's Hill.

He married Mary Wheeler, born Huntington, Suffolk, New York and died Brooklyn, Kings, New York, buried Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. Thomas died in New York City on 11 June 1813 and is buried at Rutgers Burying Ground in New York City. Children Platt Carman (died as an infant in New York City), Wheeler Carman (died as an infant in New York City), Euphamia Carman married Aaron Fitzgerald and died after 1885, Phebe Ann Carman, James R. Carman (born September 1811, died 13 March 1813).
