was born 1591 in Bishop-Stoke, England. He
married (1) MARY.
He married (2) FRANCES.
She died 19 November 1682. RICHARD, second son of
John Dummer, of Bishop-Stoke, England, was b. a 1591, came to N. E. 26 May,
1632, and admitted freeman the same year. He was elected an assistant in 1635
and 1636, being then of Roxbury, from whence he soon removed to Newbury, which
he represented in 1640, 1645, and 1647. He d. 14 Dec. 1679, . 88. He m.
Frances, widow of Rev. Jonathan Burr, by whom, who d. 19 Nov. 1682, he had
Jeremiah; Hannah, b. 1647; Richard; William, b. 18 Jan. 1659, who, Mr. Coffin
says, was father of Lieut. Gov. William Dummer. "Mrs. Mary Dumer, the
wife of Mr. Richard Dumer: she was a Godly woman but by the seduction of some of
her acquaintances she led away into the new opinions in Mrs. Hutchinsons time
& her husband removing to Nubery she there openly declared herselfe, &
did also (together wh othr indeavour) seduce her husband & psuaded him to
returne to Boston; where she being young with child, & ill; Mr. Clark (one
of the same opinions) unskillfully gave her a vomit, which did in such maner
torture & torment her with the riseing of the mother & other vyolences
of nature yt she dyed in a most uncomfortable maner; But we believe God tooke
her away in mercy, from worse evil, which she was falling unto & we doubt
not but she is gone to heaven." -

preceding, came to N. E. as early as 1635, admitted freeman in 1640, soon after
which he resided in Salisbury. -

of Chicknell, in the parish of North Stonham, co: Southton, gent. Dated 12 Apr.
1650: To the poor of North and South Stonham and Bishopstoak, 6s.8d.; to four of
my daughters viz: Susan, Hester, Jane,
and Mary Dummer and to either of them 200 to be paid at their day of marriage;
to my wife 10; to my eldest daughter, Joane Nelson, widow, 20s., and to her
children Samuel and Mercie Nelson under 21, 50 each; to my daughter MARGARETT
CLEMENTS, being my second daughter and now in New England, 25, and to her
child she now nath 25; to my only son Thomas all my freehold land in North
Stonham. Exeentors: my kinsmen John Dummer of Townhill, Stephen Penton of W??,
Robert Dummer of Darley, Thomas Dummer of Fairethorne, and Stephen Dummer of
Bishops Stoake. Witnesses: Stephen Dummer, Thomas Bay??e, Ann Baldry. Proved by
the executors, 9 Nov. 1650, power reserved for Stephen Penton. (Prerogative

b. Abt. 1615, England; d. 04 September 1682, Dover, New Hampshire. Job Clements's first
wife belonged to a family of great importance in the early days. Her sister Jane
Dummer, unmarried at the time of her father's death, became the wife of the
celebrated Henry Sewall, who took an active interest in Colonial affairs, and
was afterwards Mayor of Coventry, England. Another sister, Joane Nelson, was the
widow of Thomas Nelson of Rowley, Mass., who made his Will in England, 6 Aug.
1648, while on a voyage there. The Will was proved, 21 Dec. 1649, and Richard
Dummer of Newbury, the uncle of Margaret (Dummer) Clements, was one of the
appraisers of the property. At the sale of the estate, Job Clements bought some
of his sister-in-law's furniture. (Note by G.C. - "Genealogical Register of
the First Settlers of New England" lists Jane as daughter of Stephen Dummer,
Thomas's brother, not daughter of Thomas)

15 February 1641/42; d. 1649, Massachusetts. Joan,
daughter of Thomas Dummer, niece of the famous Richard Dummer. Thomas Dummer was
from Chicknell, North Stoneham, county Hants. England, and came in the "Bevis,"
May, 1638. with daughter Joan, aged nineteen years, settled at Rowley, Newbury
and Salisbury. His will was proved in England, November 9, 1650. In it he
mentions his eldest daughter Jane Nelson. Children of Thomas and Joan (Dummer)
Nelson: 1. Phillip, born in England, 1636, died August 19, 1691. 2. Thomas, born
in England, 1638, died April 6, 1712. 3. Mercy, born at Rowley, February 26,
1643-4; married John Stork. 4. Samuel, born 1646, at Rowley. 5. Mary, born
December 21, 1648, at Rowley.

STEPHEN, Newbury,
brother of the first Richard Dummer, was born at Bishop-Stoke, came to N. E.
about 1636; admitted freeman 1639, returned to England in 1647. His wife was
Alice Archer, and his daughter Jane m. Henry Sewall. Mehetabel, another
daughter, was b. 1641 -Genealogical Register of the First Settlers of New
England Stephen Dummer came in
the Bevis from Southampton with his elder brother, Richard in 1638 with his wife
Alice (Archer) and four children:--Jane, 10; Dorothy, 6; Richard, 4; Thomas, 2
years. He was a freeman at Newbury in 1639, had Mchitabel, Jan. 1, 1640 -

Dummer, the agent in England for Mass., who grad. at H. C. 1699, a most
