Below is certificate No. 7, issued 16 October 1881 to Bertine P. Carman.  It is signed by Theron L. Carman, who was Secretary of the Carman Association, William S. Carman who was President of the Association and M. Carman Combes who was Treasurer.

The beautiful lithographed certificate was printed by the New York Bank Note Company.  I am not aware of any history of the picture at the top of the certificate or who it is suppose to depict other than Puritans.

A number of certificates have survived over the years but not all that many.  The few that have are family heirlooms and cherished.  This certificate was provided by Beatrice Carman, who is the Great-Granddaughter of Bertine Pinkey Carman, who in turn was Great-Grandson of Samuel Carman and Mary De Mott. - thank you Beatrice.
