Caleb⁴ Carman (Joshua³, Caleb², John¹) was born 30 August 1711 and supposed by some to have been born in St Mary's, Cecil County, Maryland, however his name first appears in Cecil County records in 1744 (William Stillwell Carman journal no. 21) perhaps an indication when his mysterious father died. Caleb died 17 February 1761 in Cecil County, Maryland.  He was a farmer by occupation. He married 30 August 1751 in Cecil County, Maryland to Mary Nevell (aka Mary Newell), born about 1725 in Cecil County, Maryland; daughter of William Newell.

Like his father, not much is known about Caleb.  He died relatively young and he had only one son and he was only two when his father died, so the boy had no recollection of him. His daughters did marry of course but they went the ways of their husbands.
