Benjamin5, Caleb4

Benjamin5 Carman (Caleb4, James3, Caleb2, John1) was born in 1751 at Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey.  He died about 1820.  Benjamin did not leave much information about himself behind and was summated as follows:

"He had one son who went out West when a young man. Benjamin was in the American Army during the Revolutionary War." - Journals of William Stillwell Carman, Book No. 24 - Caleb Carman of Cape May, Bordentown Carmans, Virginia & Kentucky Carmans

Keeping in mind that going out west in the time after the Revolutionary War was no further than anything west of the Appalachian Mountains.  Benjamin's wife is unknown, but his one son is:

Caleb6 Carman (Benjamin5, Caleb4, James3, Caleb2, John1) was born about 1771 in New Jersey, and like his father left little of his personal life. He married about 1793 in New Jersey, Elizabeth Vermeule.  After marriage and one child they began their trek "west", first through Mason County, Kentucky, where the next six children were born, and finally settling in Manchester, St. Louis County, Missouri, where most of the children settled and raised families of their own.

Children of Caleb and Elizabeth (Vermeule) Carman:  (one could speculate that the middle initial in the children's names are for their mother's maiden name)
