Not only do we have to answer the question of where did John¹ Carman come from, but what is the origin of the Carman family even further back. There is no record of John before he arrived in the American Colonies.  But it can be safely speculated that he is of English stock by his family associations, religious affiliations, family names.  But which is his exact father and grandfather and so forth remains to be discovered. 

You will find scattered through the website various family folklores as to the Carman heritage.  Most cannot be proven by any known official record. So they must be viewed as possibly wrong.  But they offer possibilities and until proven otherwise are generally considered  the correct family line.
