Here you will find history and genealogy on the Carman family, more specifically the descendants of John and Florence (Fordham) Carman,  from their arrival in New England in 1631, to their settlement of Long Island, New York in 1644, to their spread across the United States, Canada, Argentina and several other countries.  The name might not be as common as it once was but the family line is large.

Where other families and lines have adopted the use of the name surname 'Carman' a modest effort is made to distinguish them from the main focus here.

This sight uses a lot of graphics. So if you have an older computer - sorry, some pages are going to load slow. Also note not all web pages are accessed from menus. You will find that many pages can only be found by 'clicking' on the hyperlinks (the underlined text)- so pay attention if you don't want to miss things. If you browse quickly only looking at the menus you will miss a lot. There are over 300 pages on this site.

Most important, I do not know it all. If you have corrections, additions, questions, and especially family stories, please email me.

Please excuse any delays and lost emails recently - my website host is experiencing some difficulties keeping my email going the last couple of weeks. It is now coming in (outbound is another problem).

My mother's maiden name was Kathleen Carman. She was born in upstate New York and has traced our family back to 1085 in Surry, England. I'm happy to share what I have with anyone interested. Mark Gregoire (son of Kathleen Carman and John Gregoire)

Very interesting. i found this while searching my surname on google. thought you might want to know that my family comes from East anglia and i live in the historical town of Bury St Edmunds. So this adds genealogical proof that that the Seamans are of Norse or Saxon origin since East anglia is one of the first places they settled.
